Autumn Acrostic Poems
We created some beautiful Autumn acrostic poems. We used our real-life experiences and our shared word bank to support our writing.
Personhood
We explored the idea of 'personhood' in P4C this week. We discussed the things that make us unique and then answered some philosophical questions using this knowledge.
Properties of materials
We discussed the properties of different materials and learnt lots of new vocabulary! We then explored objects from around the classroom and matched the properties to each object.
Eight frames
We used eight frames to create different bonds to eight. One partner placed the counters, and the other partner had to explain what the counters represent. Then we swapped!
Dorothy Hyman
We have discussed the life of Dorothy Hyman. We know why she is an important figure in Barnsley and why our local sports centre is named after her. We then worked in pairs to create a timeline showing the key events from her life. [gallery type="rectangular"...
Headings and sub-headings
We have explored headings and sub-headings in non-chronological reports. We know that a heading tells us what the whole report is about and that a sub-heading tells us what each paragraph is about.
Number Bonds to 8…
We have used our Rekenreks to explore the different ways we can make 8!
Why are some words special? Buddhism.
We discussed the Tripitaka and why this is such an important text for Buddhists. We learnt this means 'three baskets' as this is how the original Tripitaka was stored. We then listened to a story from 'The Way...
Why are some words special? Islam.
We discussed the Qur'an and why this is a special book for Muslims. We then listened to the stories 'The Prophet and the Ants' and 'The Crying Camel'. We discussed the key messages from these stories and then acted the stories out. We asked our peers to guess which...
Team building – lesson 4
We are learning to further develop our cooperation and communication skills to help us complete team challenges. We worked in small groups to complete a range of different challenges. We had to communicate clearly and provide team support when needed. [gallery...
Numbers Representing Length.
We used our knowledge of numbers to 100 to represent length. We used multi link cubes to measure the length of objects around the classroom. We then estimated the length of the markers on the mysterious lines that appeared around our classroom.
Team Building
Today our team building skills focussed on building trust and developing communication. Working with a partner we used blindfolds and guided our partner around the room using simple commands, whilst being careful not to touch the traps. [gallery type="rectangular"...
Year 2 Lesson 5 Consolidate dodging
Frog and Toad
This week in P4C we revisited the story of 'Frog and Toad'. We listened carefully to the story and thought about how the characters were feeling and how this resulted in their actions. We then put the characters in the 'hot seat' and asked them interview style...
Barnsley
We explored what jobs were like in the past in Barnsley and compared them to the present. We matched the pictures and spoke about how the job roles had changed over 100 years!
Dodging L3
We worked with partners to apply our dodging skills to attack and defence strategies. We explored attacking to beat an opponent.
Team Building L2
We worked in small teams to complete the 'cross the swamp' challenge. We communicated well as a team to make sure we all got across without touching the floor outside of the hoop.
Route explorers Lesson 3
We have explored algorithms in computing. We programmed the characters to follow a complete route around a track.
