Barnsley Music Education Hub website now has new features which we really hope will support schools. As well as a new Online Learning section that was developed last term, we have also been working hard to reduce the amount of printed paper resources that we use, therefore we have included the following documents online:

·         Pupil Practice Diary

·         Pupil Handbook (Lots of information about how lessons work)

·         New Starter Form (Pink Form)

Here is The link to these documents:

A Virtual ‘Welcome Back’

Mrs. Allen has been determined to keep everything running as normal as possible in school, and today she welcomed our children back to school through a virtual assembly which the children watched in their classrooms at the same time as each other. Mrs. Allen explained what school would be like this term, introduced new staff and children, presented new class names (and we did our usual waves to each other), shared news updates from the Summer holidays and we all said our School Prayer.
It was great for all classes to share an experience together, thank you Mrs Allen.

So Here it is….Merry Christmas!

Over a hundred children came back to school for the most Christmassy disco around! Thank you so much to Mrs. White who organised hot dogs, crisps, pop, sweet treats and to Miss Betts and Mrs Porter for the Christmas tunes and plenty of crazy dancing opportunities for all of us to enjoy!

10 day Active Travel Challenge

Dear Parent / Carer,
Our school will be taking part in the 10 day Active Travel Challenge starting on Monday 7th and finishing on Friday 18th October 2019.
The challenge is for pupils & their families to choose an active way of getting to school over the 10 day period. There are prizes for everybody who completes the challenge, as well as whole school prizes!
We need everyone to take part and make an effort to travel to school in an active way during the challenge. The challenge is also open to school staff and we will be making every effort to take part too…

Our children are enjoying using their new playtime equipment!

Kingswood 2018

What a trip! The children had an amazing week on their residential visit to Wales. Here are some of the highlights:

Summer DISCO 2019

Another fantastic fundraiser. Our children had a wonderful time at the DISCO. Thank you to Mrs White, all the staff who supported and our #incrediblecommunity for their ongoing support.

Year 6 Leavers 2018-19

The Year 6 children were amazing in their final performance at Birkwood. Here are a few highlights from their assembly. We wish them all the best of luck on the next stage of their journey.

Mary Poppins 2019

What a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious performance! The cast were amazing, the audience were mightily impressed with the singing, dancing and acting. Thank you to Mrs. Porter for putting on another phenomenal show, to Mrs. Sutton for organising the choir and to all the behind the scenes staff. ‘Practically Perfect in Every Way!’

Summer Fayre 2019

A huge Thank You and well done to Mrs. White and her band of helpers as the Friends of Birkwood Summer Fayre went tremendously well! It was a scorcher, and we were delighted to see so many members of our #incrediblecommunity there. An astonishing £1,313.61 profit was made – every penny of which goes straight back to our children. The stalls were great fun – some were tasty too!
It was a wonderful afternoon and thanks for your support!

(NO)Sleepover 2019

(NO)Sleepover 2019
Another brilliant (late) night! The children enjoyed some ‘old-fashioned’ games and entertainment with Mr. Summerfield and Mr. Wattam; a keepy-up contest with Mr. Froggatt; pizzas supplied by Mrs. Birch and Mrs. Sutton; a teddy contest with Mr. Sandwith and, films before bedtime. Plenty of fun (but not much sleep) was had by all!

Afternoon Tea

The Birkwood School Council 2018/19 were treated to Afternoon Tea by Mrs Allen MBE this week.  They have all been wonderful Ambassadors for our school ~ thank you!

Creative Arts Week 2019

Another outstanding Creative Arts Week 2019 themed around India. The children have been busy in all year groups, using a range of materials to create lots of different masterpieces. Each class had to create a Taj Mahal and the winners (Year 6 Lions) were announced in a Celebration Assembly on Friday. The children’s eye-catching work is to be displayed around school for all to see.
Thank you to Miss Betts for organising another wonderful week!

ONE Big Night at Birkwood

A behind the scenes look at our showcase evening for BBC’s The One Show. Our children (and all guest players) were amazing and we are SO proud of all that they do! Music continues to thrive at Birkwood under Mrs. Sutton, with support from Mrs. Allen, our Governing Body and our #incrediblecommunity.

An Assembly Full Of Science

Andrew, the scientist, came in and amazed us all with a scientific spectacle. The children learned about materials and their properties, about sublimation and about air vortexes. The children were really engaged and could not wait to learn more in their science lessons!

Mary Poppins Merchandise

Merchandise will be on sale soon. The Year 6 Lions are busy creating and producing items to sell promoting our end of year production.

Birkwood’s Got Talent 2019

Another year, another outstanding night!
We hosted our annual talent festival in front of a very supportive audience. A wonderful evening saw dance, song and lots of amazing live music entertain our #IncredibleCommunity. Many thanks to all of the staff involved, to our wonderful judges and of course to the amazing performers. A truly memorable occasion. Enjoy some spectacular highlights here.

It’s BGT Audition Time

Our two-day BGT audition slots were packed with talent. Well done to everyone who took part – you are AMAZINGLY TALENTED!

A Sunny Friday Afternoon and Diggers!

These boys decided to spend their half hour of choosing time playing creatively. How refreshing to see a plant pot of dirt and some construction vehicles inspiring so many positive social and language skills.

We’re Recycling!

Friday sees the first ever ‘Birkwood Pre-loved Uniform Sale’. Freshly washed & ironed sweatshirts, jumpers and cardigans will be on sale in the playground from 3.15pm THIS FRIDAY. Come along and grab a bargain – everything is £1. All funds will be put towards the Kingfishers’ trip of a lifetime to Harry Potter World – we will be grateful for our incredible community’s support.
