Headteacher’s Welcome Message
We wish you a very warm welcome to the Birkwood Primary School website and hope that by visiting us, you will get a picture of our vision, aims and the values we uphold – The Birkwood Way.
It is a huge honour for me to write as Headteacher of our lovely school. We are striving to deliver an exciting knowledge-based curriculum which produces leaders; young people who can work both in a team and independently and crucially opt to ‘do the right thing.’ This is encapsulated by ‘The Birkwood Way’ – the centre of our values, vision and every day practice.
We seek to develop the whole child, harnessing and celebrating each of their unique talents, strengths and personalities. Exciting opportunities enable this both inside and outside of the classroom.
Our high quality learning environments are enhanced by a modern library, restocked regularly with recommended and chosen reads and a purpose built children's kitchen, so that they can cook as part of their learning in DT, Science, Maths and Literacy. We also have a community and sensory garden area where children grow vegetables, fruit, flowers and herbs. The school is in its final stages of a large extension. Three state of the art classrooms have been added, and a new sports and play facility shall be completed for September 2024. Children use technology regularly and have access to 1-1 devices in several lessons.
Foundation Stage has been extended. We have transformed our excellent facilities with 3 remodelled indoor areas as well as developing excellent outdoor facilities for our youngest children. The outdoor area for Reception/ EYFS2 will also be transformed in the Summer of 2024.
At Birkwood, we recognise and value the vital contributions that our parents, families and wider community make in the education of our children. Birkwood is truly a family and we are very proud of our #IncredibleCommunity. We engage actively with the local, wider and global community.
With best wishes,
Mr. Daniel Wood
Headteacher
