Chronology
We looked at the features of a historic timeline. We know that mining (our current unit) happened after the Roman Empire and Anglo-Saxons (our previous units).
Dance…
We build character by adding drama and emotion to dance.
Classification
We know animals can be grouped. We grouped: mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, insects, birds and vertebrates/invertebrates.
Evaluating predictions
We used a Venn diagram which organised our predictions about the cover and the blurb. We know which predictions are likely to be most accurate.
Tennis lesson 2
We have continued our work on our forehand technique. We have looked at how use the forehand to hit the ball over the net. Today we tried to hit the ball into space to score a point.
Orienteering Lesson 2
We are learning to follow a map route. Today we were given a map that we had to follow to find key points around school. When we reached this point there was a key question to answer. We had to work in teams and communicate clearly. [gallery type="rectangular"...
Retrieval…
We use knowledge of text structure to locate information. We thought about what the main theme of each paragraph was. This helped us to locate answers more effectively.
Mixed numbers and improper fractions
We have looked at how to convert improper fractions into mixed numbers. We used counters and our times table knowledge to change improper fractions to mixed numbers.
Significant People – Hinduism
We learnt about the life of Mohandas Gandhi. We looked at how his actions are linked to the Hindu Dharma.
Lesson 1 Tennis
We begin to understand how we win a game of tennis, thinking about where and why we throw the ball on the court.
Lesson 1 – Dance
We respond to different stimuli being able to sustain characters to add drama and emotion to the dance.
Tennis lesson 1
We are learning to develop our forehand. We have worked in pairs to practise our underarm throws and our forehand skills. We practised over a cone net and then over the actual net.
Orienteering L1
We are learning to give directions using the compass points. We have started our orienteering topic. We have talked about using maps to find our way around. Today we discussed the importance of giving clear and accurate directions to move around the space and find...
Basketball
We are applying our skills to a level 1 match. We have worked in house teams to recap the skills we have learnt throughout the year and then we have applied these to a match. We worked hard to both defend and attack, dribble and shoot. A great lesson! [gallery...
Designing a sculpture
We recapped what we have already learnt about Barbara Hepworth and her style of art. We then used this knowledge to design our own sculptures, influenced by Hepworth's style.
Creating sculptures
We have combined all our skills on manipulating clay in different ways and creating texture in clay to build our Hepworth inspired sculptures. We made a plinth/pedestal first and then created our sculptures to spend on the plinth. [gallery type="rectangular"...
A new species of dragon!
We used art hub for kids drawing videos to create our own dragons linked to our class text 'How to Train Your Dragon'. We then spent time talking to our partners about our new dragons. We named the species and used full sentences with lots of descriptive language to...
Experiment – melting points
We have been learning about changes of state in science. We created an experiment to explore the melting points of different solids. We predicted how long each item would take to melt, then timed the melting process to check the accuracy of our predictions. We...
