The Year 4 Ada Lovelace class were learning how to be excellent gymnasts today. We made our bridge structures strong, elegant and connected and joined our sequences with fluidity and grace.
We loved learning, understanding and sharing Some Other Names for Rain by Kate Wakeling. We even invited an audience into class to listen!
We loved celebrating Black History Month by sharing our learning about Amy Ashwood Garvey in assembly.

We decided to act out a play of Chapter 5. We considered our character voices and actions.
From Victorian trapper, hurrier, picker and thruster, we represented the dangerous jobs children had to do until the Mines and Colliery Act, 1842. Tunnels, tools and lifts were also explored through actions, travelling and dynamic sequences as well as our mechanical duets.
Having learned about Barbara Hepworth and her love of nature in our art research, we were very excited to see her work for ourselves. We enjoyed discussing The Family of Man and walking around, appreciating the stunning surroundings. After lunch, we participated in a Walk, Talk, Make workshop based on our experiences.
Having shared some facts, qualities, values, similarities, differences and preferences, we got to thinking about what really makes US. If you change your lunchbox or your hairstyle, does that change who you are? We began to ask what was the same and different about ourselves at the end of year 3 to the beginning of year 4. Are we still the same person? Why it why not?
We had to concentrate to read the notes and rests but we did a super job! We can read music!

Part 1 of our enquiry into what makes a person a person. We had a wide range of initial responses. Next time, we will begin to wonder about a philosophical question which arises from our first thoughts.
We used counter actions of pull/push, up/down, turn/stop and open/close.
We even had some solos this week with A Quarter’s Worth!
