The Year 3 Butterflies started reading The River by Valerie Bloom today. We wanted to listen and respond to the poem before we started to use our VIPERS skills. The children liked the poem and asked some questions about the vocabulary. They were curious to explore how a river can be compared to a baby gurgling and a singer singing and gave excellent examples of how a river could swallow a tree! The rhythm and imagery really captured our attention as we listened carefully before following along ourselves. We’re going to love studying and learning this beautiful poem off by heart!
