Year 2 Assembly

Year 2 gave a fabulous overview of their Pirate Work in the latest Class Assembly at Birkwood. Singing, writing, artwork and wonderful costumes all appeared in a really wonderful, entertaining and informative performance. The children spoke clearly and all of the huge audience enjoyed every word! Many thanks to the parents and friends who were in attendance and to Mrs. Exley for her hard work, supported by Mrs. Bates, Mrs. Whitfield, Mrs. Baker and Mrs. White. Well done to the children, one of whom performed despite a broken leg! A great afternoon

Perfect Portraits

Class 3 used water colours and pastels to create beautiful portraits of Queen Elizabeth II. The children used skills and techniques that they have developed during this year to produce detailed art work. Some pupils requested an impromptu art exhibition; they organised their work to form a wonderful display as soon as it was complete. Each child’s work will be entered into a competition as part of Birkwood’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Judging these masterpieces will be an impossible task!

IJEXA COMES TO BIRKWOOD

In preparation for their forthcoming Music Festival appearance in June, Class 4 have been learning a new type of Samba drumming called IJEXA (ee-jay-sha). As you can see everyone is really concentrating and trying their best to master the new rhythms.

LEARNING ABOUT HAZARDS

Thank you to Kirsty from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, who talked to Class 4 about fire hazards in the home and how to keep themselves safe. We learnt a lot about dangers that can be easily avoided, and the children all went home with a Homesafe dvd.

Knights and Castles in Early Years

The foundation children have been learning about knights and castles and here are some of the Sunflower children showing their finished shields.

The sunshine came out this week and the children within foundation have been planting vegetables in the digging plot.

There were new arrivals at Birkwood Primary School! Four lovely chicks hatched out after the Easter holiday.

The Foundation Stage children really enjoyed meeting the local fire brigade. Here are some of the Sunflower children making a den using natural materials ~ they designed the den themselves and made labels describing the different elements of the den.
