The Robins visit Canon Hall Farm

What a fabulous day! We all had:

  • a guided tour by Rachel when we learnt all about the animals
  • lunch in our own room
  • playtime on the adventure playground
  • a milking demonstration and then chilling out with an ice-lolly.

Thank you Mrs Allen, we loved every minute!

The Ducks Visit Y1 Robins

The ducklings took a trip to our classroom. We all gently stroked them. Lots of us wanted to have a hold but some of  the ducklings were not too keen on that and would only sit still for a couple of us. We still enjoyed watching them waddle around and we thought about how they would change as they grow up.

Science in Y1 Robins

The Robins are learning all about plants in science this term. We planted our own chitted potatoes and learnt about how potatoes grow. We can’t wait to see if our plants grow and how many potatoes we will get.

Learning about Fruit and Vegetables

As part of our science topic about plants, the Robins have been looking at different fruit and vegetables and where they grow. We looked very closely with magnifying glasses at the detail of each one and did some drawings of what we could see.

Y1 Robins Visit Ledston Estate

It was perfect weather for a super day out. We have had a Gruffalo walk through the woods, learned about what trees need to grow, made dens for our pebble creatures and had a scavenger hunt. Thank you for a really special day!

Year 1 Robins’ Class Assembly

What a performance! The Year 1 Robins transported us all the way back to 1666 and told us the story of ‘The Great Fire of London’. They remembered all their lines, spoke very clearly, showed us their amazing work and sang beautifully. We are very proud of them!

Thank you to our #incrediblecommunity for their continued support.

As part of their science work about animals, the Robins have been exploring the school grounds for small creatures. They looked at  the special places (habitats) where different creatures live. They found worms, slugs, snails, a bee and some ants.

Translucent, Transparent or Opaque?

The Year 1 Robins completed a science investigation on translucent, transparent and opaque. They investigated different materials in groups, labelled them correctly then presented their findings to the rest of the class. Well done!

Key Stage 1 Nativity

What a fantastic retelling of ‘The First Christmas’! Excellent singing, clear narration and tremendous acting all made this into a wonderful performance by our Year 1 and Year 2 children.

Thank you to Miss Betts and our Key Stage 1 staff for putting the show together and to the members of our community who showed their tremendous support.

The Robins enjoyed …

…following the instructions for a recipe to make porridge and then they really enjoyed eating it like in the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.

The Robins have been illustrators in ICT this half term and have illustrated their own e-book about Cinderella. They learnt how to save their work and to insert pictures they drew on the computer into the e-book template.

The Robins explored their sense of touch in science this week.

We learnt that when we touch something, the nerves in our skin send messages to our brain, which tells us whether something is hot or cold, and what it feels like. The Robins sorted objects by whether they felt soft, smooth, sticky, spiky, cold, bumpy, squashy, rough or silky.

Signs that Autumn is here.

The Robins went on an Autumn walk around the school grounds to look for signs that Autumn is here. They collected lots of Autumn ‘treasure’; finding coloured leaves, beech nut cases, conkers and sycamore wings. They also spotted some Autumn berries and toadstools. The Robins then recorded what they had seen, heard, smelt and felt on our Autumn walk.

Year 1 Robins – Little Red Riding Hood

As part of their topic ‘Once Upon a Time’, the Robins have begun to learn about the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. They loved being storytellers and retold the story using puppets. They also completed challenges in the learning areas to make their own puppets and used the puppet theatre and props to tell their own stories.

As part of their science work on senses, the Robins have been exploring sight…

We looked closely at our own eyes and made a class pictogram about eye colour. We talked about how in order to see objects we need light and went into a dark cupboard to explore this. We were then blindfolded and used our other senses of touch, smell and hearing to identify what different objects were.

As part of their science work on senses, the Robins have been exploring their sense of taste.

As part of their science work on senses, the Robins have been exploring their sense of taste. They used their tongue to taste if foods were sweet, sour, salty or bitter. The children completed a tally chart to find out which of the different foods their classmates preferred.

As part of their ‘Once Upon a Time’ topic, the Robins have been looking at the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’.

The Robins thought it was very unfair of the other animals not to help the Little Red Hen bake her bread, so decided to make some bread for her to cheer her up. We followed a recipe to make some bread and measured how the dough changed in size as it rose. The children enjoyed using their tongues to taste the bread as part of our science work on senses.
