Curriculum Magic

Many thanks to Hywel Roberts who visited Birkwood for a fantastic CPD session for all staff. Hywel talked about his books ‘Botheredness’ and ‘Oops!’ as well as discussing a variety of ways to boost learning across our Birkwood Curriculum. A superb session that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Festive Feast

Many thanks to our lovely Lunchtime Team – Christmas Dinner was superb! Our new Kitchen made its Christmas Lunch debut and fed a lot of grateful and hungry customers; we had a super time enjoying a delicious, traditional lunch.

Five Star Service!

Huge congratulations to Sarah & her amazing Kitchen Team! We are officially ‘5 star rated’ after an unannounced inspection of the School Kitchen. (of course it arrived on the busiest day of the school meals year!) It could not be any better and everyone at Birkwood wishes to congratulate and thank our School Meals Team for the sterling service which they provide. Brilliant news!

Barnsley in Bloom 2023

We did it We were given a GOLD AWARD by the Yorkshire in Bloom judges at Barnsley Town Hall. We are so very PROUD of all the children who accepted the award on behalf of everyone who gardens with Miss Greenwood in KS1 and KS2. Huge thanks too to David, our super volunteer and of course to Miss Greenwood herself. It was also super to see families of the gardeners come and enjoy the evening.

Overall Winners!

Another great display of outstanding talent. We are very proud of all children who took part – the judges had a very difficult job to do.

Here are our winners from the night of Birkwood’s Got Talent 2023.

Mrs. Allen’s Retirement Assembly

Mr. Froggatt did a wonderful job virtually leading the celebrations of Mrs. Allen’s outstanding career. The Assembly talked through her outstanding career from start to finish and featured a number of special brass performances, a message from a celebrity and a Gaelic Blessing from our oldest children. We will miss you Mrs Allen xx

A Virtual ‘Welcome Back’

Mrs. Allen has been determined to keep everything running as normal as possible in school, and today she welcomed our children back to school through a virtual assembly which the children watched in their classrooms at the same time as each other. Mrs. Allen explained what school would be like this term, introduced new staff and children, presented new class names (and we did our usual waves to each other), shared news updates from the Summer holidays and we all said our School Prayer.

It was great for all classes to share an experience together, thank you Mrs Allen.
