Cook It

The Woodpeckers have enjoyed learning about Stone Age this half term and have baked some delicious shortbreads in Cook It. They then used their shortbreads to recreate the famous Stone Age landmark Stonehenge.

Our Parish Church

Thank you so much to Father David for making Year 4 so welcome at St John’s, Cudworth. We learned about the Christian faith and the importance of Lent and Easter for Christians. Thanks to Father David for explaining about tolerance and respect for other faiths- something that is close to our hearts at the moment.

Recreating The Titanic

The Woodpeckers are enjoying finding out about life on-board the Titanic and have been busy recreating this amazing ship. They have designed and created their own cabins, thinking carefully about the first, second and third classes passengers on-board and how their cabins would be decorated. They even designed their own miniature wooden furniture.

Here is our Macmillan News

On Wednesday 3rd October, the Kingfishers and the Woodpeckers will be hosting a Community Café Day to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Pupils will visit the café during school time, and can choose a bun, cake or biscuit as well as a drink for 50p. The Café will open after school so that we can welcome our community too

REAL Food 

We harvested peas and strawberries from the community garden. By 11am, they were all gone! We loved having a mid-morning, healthy snack time.

Circus Science Week

 

All children in Years 1 to 6 had an amazing time learning about science. They used their knowledge of forces and motion, and put it into practice by performing circus acts. It was a really fun and entertaining couple of days. Thank you Nick for visiting, for teaching about pushes, pulls and twists, and for bringing the forces of friction and gravity to life!

We enjoyed preparing our very own tea today. On the menu is fishcake, new potatoes cooked with school grown mint and a beautiful chefs’ special salad. Delicious!

Golden Day

The Woodpeckers spent a wonderful afternoon watching the 2nd leg of the Tour de Yorkshire in Barnsley Town Centre. The children were fantastic ambassadors for our school and thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle of this exciting international sporting event!

Tour de Yorkshire

The Woodpeckers have a great spectator spot outside the Town Hall on Friday. They will be watching the start of the Tour de Yorkshire..and displaying their personally designed and made banners, badges and flags!

Guess Who?! 

We loved learning simple French phrases to describe facial features. Our task was to translate phrases and draw the correct feature onto each face. Some of these made us giggle!

Brilliant Northern Ballet

 

All of our Year 3s were treated to a wonderful workshop from the Northern Ballet. This was in preparation for our visit to see their professional ballet performance of ‘The Ugly Duckling’ at Barnsley Civic in June.  We had a wonderful afternoon!
