Is it okay?

Mrs. Allen asked us to discuss her decision to let Elsa be a blood donor dog. This was a philosophy lesson where opinions changed as discussion and research took place.

Remembering!

We are honoured to learn about Tony. He was only 8 years old in 1944 and witnessed an American aircraft carrying 10 young men crash. Tony has visited the park near where the plane crashed EVERY DAY since and looked after the memorial. A fitting flypast was organised on 22nd February to commemorate the 75th anniversary.

Money, Money, Money

Our Year 4 Kingfishers enjoyed being in charge of LOTS of cash! They made wise purchases and calculated expenditure accurately. We are all spent up!

Let’s Get Creative!

Our final art lesson of this half term gave us the opportunity to showcase our pastel skills. We created beautiful artwork based on our very own musical instruments. The finished products have been used to make a thank you card for a gentleman in Leeds. He has kindly donated a generous gift to Birkwood, which will most certainly assist us in our musical futures.

Titanic Tea Time

It has been wonderful to watch our Kingfishers learn new skills during Cook It week. They have prepared and cooked food from the menu of the restaurant on the Titanic (with artistic licence for Yorkshire puddings only). Each child proudly took a ‘Titanic Take Away’ home to have for tea. How lucky are we?!

First Class Creative Writing

Amazing persuasive writing from these children. Their adverts would convince anyone to purchase a ticket to travel 1st class on the Titanic! Each of them received a well-earned Headteacher award- congratulations!

Launching the Unsinkable Ship

Today was our creative launch day as our new topic is the Titanic and we are excited! We designed and constructed Titanic LEGO models (complete with iceberg). We made clay jewellery for the 1st class passengers (with real pearls and diamonds). We created antique life buoys and we used our careful water colour and sketching skills to represent the Titanic.

A fabulous day all round. Well done Kingfishers – the Titanic has docked!

Keep Calm and Carry On!

Today marked the opportunity for our Kingfishers to share a moving presentation of speech, drama, poetry and music for their families. They have responded SO enthusiastically towards their World War 2 topic. Well done everyone.

Thank you #incrediblecommunity for your support.

Matchstick Men and Matchstick Cats and Dogs

We are really enjoying learning about the life and works of the great L.S Lowry. We used pastel and charcoal techniques to create art in the style of this fantastic artist.

In Flanders Fields

We learned John McCabe’s beautiful poem and talked about the sacrifices made. Our art work was based on the poem – we made each and every poppy unique, to represent the individual lives, personalities and cultures of the fallen.

Nature Film It

Our class worked in pairs with a friend to capture still photographs of the changing season. We selected, deleted and cropped, and then used iMovie to add music, text and a few fancy emojis. As you can tell, we are extremely proud of our achievements!
