Our Key Stage 2 Gymnastics Team are finalising preparations for the Team Barnsley Competition. Their first 2 performances of the new routine have been in our Staff Meeting and in Assembly! The routine has been choreographed by Mrs. Porter and is complemented with wonderful, creative outfits – as always. She has led a fabulous project so many thanks to her for that! The gymnasts have worked extremely hard and we are certain they will do Birkwood proud at the latest local competition. Well done and good luck!
Year 6 have produced some excellent posters during work on Victorian holidays. The posters are designed to encourage tourists to visit the seaside via the steam train invention and railway network that was developed in this innovative period of British History. The artists worked extremely hard to showcase their drawing skills. Well done to everyone on their fabulous efforts.
The children in Year 6 are certainly enjoying their new homework challenge, details available on this website. Here are some of their efforts: a Victorian House, Gruel (YUK!), Charles Darwen’s Boat – HMS Beagle, Houses, A gramophone, A delicious Victorian Sandwich Cake and a Model Steam Train are all included here. Well done on your efforts, the ‘Birkwood Dollars’ are piling up!
Year 6 produced their own Assembly on the Victorian Topic. Planning their ideas using the ‘TASC’ wheel, they researched a famous Victorian and shared their findings with the whole school, parents and Mrs White. (Chair of Governors.) Included were Victorian Inventions, Authors and their works, Charles Darwin, The Postal System and Dr. Barnardo.
The children worked very hard on a limited time scale to produce the Assembly and all of the Staff who assisted them were extremely proud of the outcome! Well done to all, many thanks to everyone who came to enjoy and share our efforts!
Following their 3rd place at the 2012 Barnsley Schools’ Dance Competition, the Foundation Team gave a wonderful exhibition of their talents in assembly this week.
The team received great support from parents and grandparents and as always, were coached wonderfully well by Mrs. Porter.
The children have shown great determination and perseverance in their mastering of the latest routine. Well done to everyone concerned!
Any team looks forward to a new kit and thanks to great friends of our school, Mr. and Mrs. Burghin, we at Birkwood are now excited about our new Inter Milan style number! The kit, manufactured by Nike is complete with R Burghin, Joiner & Handyman sponsorship on the front, and B&Q Trade Point Sponsorship above the numbers on its reverse. Mr. and Mrs. Burghin joined our Special Assembly in order to present the kit to Mrs. Allen. From everyone at www.birkwood.org.uk an enormous thank you goes to the donators, if we play as good as we’ll look then look out! Of course should you require any Handyman and Joinery assistance, Richard would be delighted to take your call on 07908 143980. R Burghin Joiner & Handyman and Birkwood - A Great Team!
The Year 6 Victorian Homework has started with a bang and in one case a delicious one at that! The children have a list of homework tasks, shown on the website and are encouraged to complete one task per week, in any order. Here we have a Victorian Booklet – researched on the internet, a Victorian Middle/ Upper Class Home and the Queen’s favourite snack – A Victorian Sandwich Cake. Queen Victoria enjoyed this sponge so much that her name has been associated with the cake for over one hundred years! The cake was reviewed by an eager Dad who said, “The cake was moist and fresh tasting. Delicious!” Well done to these children, a great start to the Homework Challenge!
Well done to this Year 6 boy and his Dad for their wonderful recreation of the Battle of Britain aircraft as seen. Their meticulous model making work, completed over a weekend has been shared with the whole school in Assembly. Well done boys, a wonderful effort!
