Special Educational Needs At Birkwood 2016-17

Special educational needs mean that a child has learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn than most children of the same age. This could be difficulties with:

  •  All of the work in school
  • Reading, writing, number work or understanding information
  • Expressing themselves or understanding what others say to them  Making friends or relating to adults
  •  Following school rules  Organising themselves
  • Some kind of health needs which may affect them in school

As a parent, you are likely to be the first person to spot if your child needs extra support. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress or development, or would like more information about any aspect of Special Educational Needs, please come to speak to Melanie Jopling, Deputy Headteacher. She can be found in the Inclusion Room office.
